AIR Council meets with key organisations with view to enhancing collaborations.

Over the past three months AIR Co-Chairs Paul Scott and Sally Sheinman, along with Council members David Cotterrell and Mitra Memarzia, have been involved in a series of meetings with key organisations/institutions in the visual arts economy. These have included:

In each meeting AIR Council representatives have explained AIR's evolution and development as a representative body for artists. They have outlined AIR's aims and plans for the future and sought to understand the functions of the differing organisations we have met.

The key intentions have been:

  • To introduce AIR as the authentic voice of artists
  • To create a memorandum of understanding between AIR and each organisation
  • To understand each organisation's function and the vision they have of their place in the visual arts ecology
  • To understand how the differing bodies work and relate to each other
  • To be an effective voice for artists by facilitating a new dialogue between interested and engaged parties

The AIR Council has resolved to continue regular dialogues with each organisation. In addition the AIR Council felt that there would be value in continuing talks in a collaborative manner, with AIR providing the catalyst for new engagement and discussions. A further meeting between key players will be held this autumn. Hosted by DACS and chaired by AIR, it will also include a-n, Artquest, and Axis.

In other developments, AIR is in the final stages of agreeing a memorandum of understanding with The Scottish Artists Union. Already a member of the European Council of Artists, AIR is also continuing dialogues with the International Association of Art and is commissioning new research into international representative bodies for artists. This is with a view to developing new collaborations, dialogues and services for our members.
