Following the 2011 Election and online voting, Emily Speed and Annabel Tilley have been elected to the AIR Council. Here’s what they have to say...

Emily Speed

"I am thrilled to have been elected to the AIR Council and am looking forward to working as part of this committed and energetic group of artists.

I am excited to be able to contribute to the work AIR are already doing; putting artists' needs at the centre of discussion and action. I am especially interested in addressing the working conditions and needs of artists as well as examining further the ways in which artists can work together to effect change.

I hope that my experience and ability to adapt, question, negotiate and to be resourceful in finding new opportunities will be useful to the breadth of arts practices that the AIR membership comprises."

Annabel Tilley

"I am delighted, and truly excited, to have been elected as a new member of the AIR Council. After a decade as an artist I know that people working together are stronger than individuals, and I see it as a great opportunity and privilege to work with a group of like-minded artists to promote and push forward the AIR Objectives.

I see much exploitation and apathy in the art community that needs to be addressed. As artists we must to take ourselves more seriously as a unit, rather than just as individuals. We need to understand the power that a well-organised group has to create a meaningful and worthwhile voice for change

However, in the view of this newcomer, AIR's most pressing concern is getting themselves known and recognised as that voice for change. I see that as an ongoing priority for the AIR Council, and it will be my pleasure to assist in that process."
